| In the US there are over 10,000 elopements every year. Many of these elopements do not happen in the resident state of either the bride to be or the groom. Many times these elopements take place after only just a few short days of planning. The problem that many elopers run into is that the state they wish to marry have marriage requirements such as waiting periods, pre-marital counseling requirements, or residency restrictions that were not anticipated by the eloping couple. To help with this there are a few great sites on the web that can be used to make sure you know all the marriage laws for a given state and that you have all the legal requirements met before hitting the road to get married. There are 5 key requirements you need to keep in mind when getting all your elopement/destination wedding arrangements in order. They are: Do you have to be a legal resident of either the state or the United States to marry in the state of your choosing? Is there a waiting period that must be met in order to marry in a given state? Are there medical tests, such as AIDS or other blood work needed? Have you been previously married, and do you need documentation validating the end of that marriage? Is there Premarital Counseling required before you marry? Not having the answer to these questions will almost assuredly put a damper on your road to an elopement if you are not prepared. Many times just a little research can get you on the right path to a successful elopement. |
